Bringing Florida Sunshine into Your Home

Hi everyone! I hope you guys are all safe and healthy during all of this COVID-19 craziness!

This is where I’ve been spending my time during quarantine.

With all of this extra time at home, I’ve had plenty of time to clean, organize, and enjoy my dream home! My husband and I just moved into our new house in December and have spent hours over the past few months making it our own sunny Florida paradise.

Our dream home!

As we have only been here a few months, we still have many projects that we are planning on doing, but there were some quick and easy things to do that made all the difference as we started our process.

Our first step to brighten our home happened before we even moved in. Painting the inside of the house was the first thing we wanted to do because we are firm believers that colors and light have a huge impact on the feel of your space which in turn can influence your mood. Some of the rooms in the house seemed kind of dark and outdated because of the paint colors and accent walls that the previous owners had chosen. Our house has so many windows and high ceilings, so we made sure we picked some beautiful neutral paint colors that would work to reflect all of the natural sunlight and brighten up our space. We chose Full Moon (a light gray by Benjamin Moore) for most of our house, Ocean Air (a light subtle turquoise also by Benjamin Moore) for our master bedroom and bath and Icing on the Cake (an even lighter turquoise-blue by Benjamin Moore) for the pool bathroom and my craft room.

Our second step was furniture. We didn’t have the budget to buy a ton of new furniture, but luckily the furniture from my apartment that we brought out of storage and the new master bedroom set we bought at Rooms to Go worked perfectly to complete our vision. White painted wood in the master bedroom with white accents throughout the house was perfect to complete the beachy, relaxing oasis we were working to create. Our driftwood colored living room sectional, our blue entryway sofa and loveseat, and our neutral deep espresso and sand colored outdoor table, chairs, and couch were beautiful ocean colored accents to our theme.

The final step was the most fun! Decorating! This was so fun for me because I love everything tropical or beach themed and two of my favorite brands collaborated to create the most beautiful collection of items perfect for any Florida home or beach house! Lilly Pulitzer’s collaboration with Pottery Barn let me bathe my home in sun drenched, cheerful prints that make every day feel like a vacation. Their colorful pillows, bedding, shower curtains, instantly brighten my day to day routine. I even have this fun little hermit crab sculpture from their first collection who puts a smile on my face every morning.

Imagine how excited I was when their latest iteration of the collection just dropped last week! The new bedding and prints they added were beautiful and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking about adding even more to my collection! They also re-releases many of their best selling items from the previous two iterations of their collaboration, from bathroom accessories and towels, to dolls, outdoor sprinklers and pool floats, and bedding and shower curtains. The quality of the quilts, pillows, and towels are amazing, and I’m sure everything else in the collection is just as wonderful!

Of course, having our house in Florida, and our outdoor entertainment area with our pool, hot tub, and waterfall certainly add to our slice of paradise too! The previous owner of the house also left us this gorgeous beach mosaic on our lanai which definitely adds a laid back feel, making it the perfect spot to relax in the sun or shade.

We are thrilled that we found our dream home and I hope that everyone else has the opportunity to find their dream home, as well. If you are in Jacksonville, Coldwell Banker Vanguard Realty, Erin E. King MBA can help you with that, especially if you are looking for a historic home, since that is what he specializes in. For example, if you are looking for an old home for sale in San Marco, he would definitely be your go-to. Erin offers really cool perks, such as a first-time home buyers coaching session and more and when you are buying a home, you really need someone great on your team to guide you through the process, so I think that’s great! How do you bring sunshine into your home? Do you have any fun house related projects planned to help you pass the time in your quarantine period? Let me know in the comments!
